Homeopathy is a system of medicine developed and born in Europe. It was initially discovered by a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann 230 years ago. He did so much research and wrote many books about homeopathy. Extensive development and research work were done much later on, with the rapid developments in medical science.
The use of homeopathy medicine is getting rife among the various communities of the world day by day. Its widespread use is not only common in the European region but it has also been used widely in South Asian, North, and South American countries. With the increasing demand for homeopathic medicines and the rapid expansion of the global market, the safety and quality of the same have become a major concern for the pharmaceutical industries, consumers, and health authorities.
In many countries of the world homeopathy has become an integrated part of their national health care system. It includes. Mexico, Chile, India, Pakistan Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom. New York Times has reported that the visits to homeopathy consultants and physicians are increasing at the rate of 39% per year, similarly a study by the Times of London has revealed that 42% to 48% of the physicians surveyed refer patients to homeopathic physicians. A recent survey in France has revealed that 25% of the French public is presently using homeopathic medicines and over 20,000 French pharmacies are selling homeopathic medicines. On the educational front universities are offering leading degrees and courses in the field of homeopathic medicines and remedies.
In view of the above, World Health Organization (WHO) has been provided support to develop a technical document, to ensure that homeopathic medicines meet minimum standards to guarantee high-quality homeopathic medicines worldwide complying with the health needs of the consumers.
